Give me some fire, and a piece of glass
Hear that train, floatin' past
On feathered tracks, with helium wheels
Ain't no coal, ain't no steel

Chorus:
Opium, won't you smile on my brain
Flowers and fog, you've got me feeling no pain
    It's 8:00 AM, not a quarter past 3:00
Flowers and fog, you've gotta set me free

Deja vu, all over again
You wanna be my pal, my best-est friend
Hear that train, screamin' past
Out of control and off the tracks

Chorus:

Rescue me, you've got to rescue me
Rescue me, you've got to rescue me
Rescue me, you've got to rescue me
Rescue me, you've gotta set me free

Chorus:

Fast asleep, quick to die
Seen 'em go in the blink of an eye
Long white line, tied to the tracks
Little white lie, no looking back

Chorus: (2x)

The last line of the chorus tends to change back and forth from any of the following, "you've gotta rescue me," "you've gotta set me free," and "won't you set me free."

ALTERNATIVE LYRICS TO "OPIUM"

BY MIKE WILT

Following MOE.'s excellent performance at the Gathering I went back to my tent to pay homage to the paper machete donkey alter I had set up near my tent, and I started to get messages from the powers that be.  I didn't know what it meant at the time - and I still don't know exactly what it means, but here is what I wrote down:

[I] sailed across the ocean,
And woke in a place
I hadn't known before -
In a different space
Than I had ever seen.

In a field of green,
The landscape seemed·
Open, open wide.

I came to and began 'cross [the] countryside,
Hours passed as miles rolled by.
The sun approached apex,
But soon began to set,
Tired though I was,
I wasn't there yet.

One mile more, I cannot take
Background:  Or perish in utopian Macau you will.
A journey I'm not fit to make.
Background:  Or perish in utopian Macau you will.
Nightmare from which I'd like to wake.
Background:  Or perish in utopian Macau you will.

The skyline of the port town
'Came clear as the sun went down
Desolate 'cause venders had packed for the day,
Though a silhouette stood hidden by the dusky gray.

He beckoned, then spoke to me:
"Try the O, it will set you free.
The O will set you free."

I gave him some tender
And O he did surrender.
Loaded a pipe then gave it a toke.
I relaxed - then sighed - then let my soul soak.

I tried it again and again - day after day.
My life had gone away.
I loved the O and in my life it'd stay.

When my money ran out, I traded my coat.
Next time, I stole a man's goat.
[It] wasn't enough though -
'Cause I still craved the O.

Too high?
Or not high enough?
I don't know, but I won't stop till I get more stuff.

I saw the silhouette and demanded his stash.
He wouldn't comply, so I jumped on his ass.
[I] stabbed him, then took his goods and made a dash.

I get my fix, then hide and hope
Cause this drug helps me cope.
But I know I'll soon pay-
Something tells me today is that day.

There's a knock, but I stay in place.
They barge in yelling, "Kick his nuts! Break his face!"
The pain swells, then fades to black.
The O has beat me and I can't come back.

I've fallen down that hill,
Background:  Opium
Seeking happiness in a pill
Background:  Opium
A drug for which I'll kill
Background:  Opium
