One more regular night in a regular bar
Where you can find regular smoke in the talk without looking too hard
One more regular beer before I go
Maybe two or five before I get back to my regular home

I don't want to leave here at all
Cause some day the most beautiful girl
Will look at me and think I'm weird
I'll smile and blink at her anyway
Simply because I'm there...
And I'm weird

And everybody turns to see the girl
Standing in neon doorway
With her braided curls
In walks the real-life queen of the rodeo
I swear to you people I thought I done died and gone to heaven
I nearly shit my boots

I don't want to leave here at all
Cause some day the most beautiful girl
Will look at me and think I'm weird
I'll smile and blink at her anyway
Simply because she's there...
And I'm weird

(Instrumental - Often Followed By Introduction Of Band Members)

I don't want to leave here at all
Some day the most beautiful girl
Will look at me and think I'm weird
I'll smile and blink at her anyway
Simply because she's there...
And, maybe, the most beautiful girl
Will look at me and come over here
We'll laugh and talk the whole night away
Simply because we're there...
And I'm weird

The original lyrics for the tune are slightly different.  These were sung up through the 12/31/96 bustout version in which the new ones were sung:

(First Verse Is The Same)

And nobody ever speaks a word
'Cept for Rob* telling all his favorite jokes
That we've already heard
And everybody turns to see the girl
Standing in the neon doorway with her braid and curl

(Chorus)

In walks the real life queen of the rodeo
I know I don't stand a chance against these other Romeos
But maybe the real queen will find it in her heart
To come and sit down next to the weird guy at the end of the bar

(Final Chorus)

*In some versions, this is "Jack."  During the 2/18/95 version, Rob actually tells a knock-knock joke.

Al wrote Queen of the Rodeo based on an incident that happened at the Wetlands around the time MOE. began playing the Wetlands in early 1994.  The question at hand, of course, is what is it about a small, uncomfortable club in lower Manhattan that can possibly draw thoughts of the rodeo?

"Queen Of The Rodeo" is a part of the Timmy Rock Opera, which has performed in its entirety only twice, both at Wetlands, in celebration. The first on 2/18/95, for the Wetlands Birthday Bash. The second on 4/10/00, for the CD Release Party of "L". For more information check out THAT SETLIST FILE.

Al:

"Queen" is sort of a made-for TV movie version of a real life 'based on actual events,' starring the guy who was best friends with the guy who was once a stand-in for someone kinda famous.  The anti-hero of the story was freaking out one night, because he had a really important show at the Wetlands, and had discovered that his father had just been admitted to the hospital.  His father had undergone a major organ transplant a few years before and although greatly improved, his health was never entirely stable.  So on top of the normal pressures of a make-it-or-break-it show in the big city, this completely rocked his world.  Enter the dame (she really is the most beautiful girl in the whole wide world).  She ends up talking with our anti-hero and taking his mind off life for a few hours.  Everyone lives happily every after.  And I'm weird.
