(Introduction
On FATBOY)*
Went on down to the sensory deprivation bank
Tried to make a withdrawal
Met a guy named Leo or Hank
You know I really can't recall
Asked him if he could show me that way
I'd be mighty obliged
He said "I'll show you how to get there, my son
But first, you've got to show me how to... FLY!"
First you flap your arms like a madman looking pretty mean
Then you jump around like a bullfrog on a trampoline
Then you take a pair of styrofoam wings and tie 'em up really tight
With the wind on the skin of your face, you know you're ready for flight
I once knew a guy who bounced all day and jumped tonight
By the time the sun came up you know that he was ready for flight
Went on back down to the sensory deprivation bank
Just to Simonize the dog
Found myself crouched in the corner,
Finger-lickin' the Scary Chicken**
We were a million miles away
Traveling a million miles an hour***
It took us three days to get there, my son
How many heads has Stanley broken?
First you flap your arms like a madman looking pretty mean
Then you jump around like a bullfrog on a trampoline
Then you take a pair of styrofoam wings and tie 'em up really tight
With the wind on the skin of your face, you know you're ready for flight
I once knew a guy who bounced all day and jumped tonight
By the time the sun came up you know that he was ready for flight
*The
FATBOY version of the tune has a dialogue that is supposedly from a video on
psychoanalysis:
"Stanley,
which planet should have come down to attack the Earth?"
"The
Planet of Headbreakers?"
"The...the
Planet of Headbreakers?"
"Yeah,
they're one million miles up so ya know it takes 'em about two and a half days
before they take the plane. Traveling a million miles per hour."
"The
Planet of Headbreakers. Is Stanley supposed to be the head of that planet?"
"That's
right Lord."
"How
many heads has Stanley broken?"
"Whaddya
expect, me to remember?"
**Scary Chicken is a reference to the Buffalo band of the same name who played on the same scene as MOE. in the early days at Buffalo Joe's and other such bars. The reference can be filed with the Monkey Wrench reference in "Y.O.Y.."
***"You know, I was thinking about something (look out!). In SDB, they say they 'were a million miles away, traveling a million miles an hour, took us two days to get there...'. Wouldn't it only take them an hour? Two days? Who's responsible for this gaffe? Rob? Stanley? I apologize if this has already been covered." - Kris Baker
"They apparently stopped on the way for Krispy Kremes." - Stan Lobitz
"I always wondered
that too...but does things to consider:
1. Were they traveling the right direction?
2. You would have to assume to get there in one hour
you would have to go in a completely straight line...
The 'space roads' might be pretty damn curvy...
3. Now that I mentioned 'space roads' I guess you also
have to assume that it is 1,000,000 miles from point A to point B and that it
didn't say on a 'space highway sign' that it was 1,000,000 miles from point
A to point B, if that was the case then it is messed up..." - Nick Sullivan
"I actually believe that this has to do with Einstein's Theory of Special Relativity. Basically, moe. was traveling a million miles an hour but unfortunately since time is not constant, two days have passed on Earth time while they were traveling. So yeah, moe. felt like the trip was only an hour but decided to let us know just how smart they are by putting in the two days line." - Jacob Wolkowitz
Craig Sand sent
us this email:
Hey, I watched the "Stanley" video when I took Psych 101 last semester. It was
put out in the late 80's or early 90's by possibly PBS. Stanley was a patient
who was given a lobodomy in a psych ward. His explanation of the planet of headbreakers
was his way of describing the lobodomy. And when he was making reference to
it taking two days to travel a million miles traveling at a rate of a million
miles an hour this math error was caused by his massive brain damage. I'm sure
the line was incorporated in the song because it is quite humorous.
