"She
Sends Me"
Lyrics Written By: Al Schnier Lyrics Transcribed By: Alex Rosenfeld Debut: January 20, 1996 |
She
thinks of John Travolta on the same day as me
She loves artichoke hearts like me
She loves corn - corn on the cob
She eats corn flakes before she goes to her job
She's an artist - she's got everything she needs
She's very modest - got a bruise on her knee
She's got a mole on her back - it's hairy and black
She's got a butt like a pillow
And she likes to wear black
I wanna be her hero, wanna be her man
I wanna be her lover anyway I can
I wanna be her friend and I'd do it all again
Cuz I love the little smiles on the letters she sends...
She sends me
She's a dopey little girl and her name's not Nancy
She's in her own little world, her name's Diane
She likes to play piano
And I love to hear her play
She likes to talk to me
And I love to hear her say
She loves me a whole freakin' lot
She loves me a whole freakin' lot
She loves me a whole freakin' lot
She loves me a whole freakin' lot
I wanna be her hero, wanna be her man
I wanna be her lover anyway I can
I wanna be her friend and I'd do it all again
Cuz I love the little smiles on the letters she sends...
She sends me
I wanna be her lover for the rest of my life
Cuz I know I'm gonna lover her for the rest of my life
I wanna be her friend and I'd do it all again
I love the little smiles on the letters she sends...
She sends me
"She Sends Me" is a song Al wrote about his to-be wife, Diane. Beginning with its appearance in the moe. rotation (it actually debuted as an Al solo tune), "She Sends Me" had a long, drawn-out jam in the middle. It started a little slower with Rob's bass line and grew from there. In June 1996, after the band spent some time in the studio working on their first major label release with NO DOY, the song re-emerged with the "surf-guitar" segment and no jam, since the band had been unhappy with the direction the song had previously been taking. This surf-guitar ending evolved out of the jams they were doing in spring of 1996. In the middle of that tour, they got into the habit of speeding the jam up over an extended period of time, launching into the chorus at the end at a high speed - pretty much the same speed with which they sing it in the surf-guitar arrangement. This became the norm by the end of the spring of 1996. When they came back in the fall, the build to the surf part was gone, though the ending of it remained. This version has become the staple, but occasionally other jams will take the place of the surf-guitar, such as the occasional reggae jam.
